Workshop: How to Teach Poetry (Primary) with Connor Allen (ONLINE)

Date: Thursday 14th July
Time: 4:00pM
Venue: Zoom
Price: £15.00 / £10.00

In this online workshop Connor Allen (current Children’s Laureate of Wales) will share some of his experiences and tools that he uses when teaching poetry workshops in schools to kids, in a hope that it will make tackling poetry easier and more accessible for teachers who wish to teach it to their students. Connor will unpack his tool kit to give teachers options and ideas to take with them when looking to tackle the subject of poetry in educational settings.

Poetry can be a daunting subject for students and teachers alike and during this workshop Connor will demystify that stigma and make poetry accessible and fun so that the teachers can take what’s useful and apply it to their lessons in a confident and fun way.

With several awards, publications and plays to his name, Connor Allen is already a familiar face to many in Wales and beyond. Most recently, he was shortlisted for Triforce’s Dave & UKTV Writerslam 2021, and was a Jerwood Live Work Fund recipient in 2021. His cross-genre work, which blends poetry, spoken word and theatre, often centres on themes such as grief, love, masculinity, identity, and ethnicity. As the current Children’s Laureate for Wales, he works to empower children and young people to tell their own unique stories through poetry.
